seems like a lotta pitbull enthusiasts over there .
Lots of pits in Hawaii, yes. Unfortunately I no longer live on the islands. I just forgot to change my location in my profile. I'm in Ohio now.

Samantha: it was a pit, brindle with white socks and a blaze on it's chest.
The lab I work, Marshall, is 52 pounds, Fama is 74 right now, and Pud - my pit/lab is 90. This dog was pretty big for a pit. I didn't have the opportunity to put it on a scales, but I'm pretty sure it was in the middle there somewhere.
I think they should rehabilitate the dog, and punish the owner. I hate that a dog died out of this, and the puppies got their mother taken away.
Thanks for the welcomes back everybody. I missed you guys.

Good to hear from you again, David. What a lousy way to end an evening but glad you came out of it ok. I'm sure the little old lady was also glad you were there. So, where in Ohio are you?

Stupid people. I got bit today myself. I'm a carpet installer. Got to my installation. Lady has a long hair dachshund in the kitchen with 1/4 of a sheet of drywall in front of the doorway on the wrong side. So the dog jumps up, pushing the drywall over and jumps up and bites me just above the knee and hangs on. I had a roll of the old carpet on my shoulder so my hands were tied up. I kicked the dog in the stomach, unfortunitely not very hard but hard enough to get it off me. I told the lady I didn't need her money and left.

Greg: I'm in NW Ohio, by Defiance.
Kory: I was an installer when I was younger and had more than one run-in with a snarky dog. We had glue spread for vinyl in this lady's kitchen, with half the room folded back, and her pissy dog came running across the glue after me. He then ran into the living room, in which we had just laid new carpet, and got glue all over the floor and furniture. She wanted me to clean it up. I gave her a rag and some mineral spirits.
It's good to have some free time again so I can stay in touch. I'm heading back to California in a week or so, so I'll be gone for a month again.

David, that's pretty funny. I needed a laugh. About 15 years ago I was doing an install in an office building in Chicago when some guy in a very expensive suit walks right past all the construction signs into freshly spread glue and falls in it. He wanted us to pay for his suit. Not happening when you ignore the signs.
I recently was confronted by a 225 lb. female great dane. The lady says "oh she's o.k., she's just scared of everyone." I'm thinking, yeah, the scared dog is the one that will bite me. Sure enough, she goes outside to talk to another contractor, I walk into another room to measure and the dog charges me and bumps my chest with her jaws. I just stood my ground until the lady came back in and put the dog in the crate. Why don't these people just crate their dogs when strangers come around in the first place?
By the way, I've been following the Fama stories. My wife is an english teacher and she says you have a gift for writing and should put a book together and try to get it published.

Sir, Please do not ignore the bite.
Since it has been more than a day since you got bitten, kindly go to the hospital and check your anti body titer.
The first thing to do when a dog bites you (even if it is your own dog ) is to wash the wound with lots of strong soap (or washing powder ) , just make lather and let it sit on the wound and work it in and around and wash it.
Next is to get the Human immuno globin administered at the bite location.
Next is to start vaccination.
I know US is a very safe place as far as the Rabies is concerned, but just not worth taking the risk.
It is not a good idea to wait for 10 days to see if the dog that bit you has rabies. better to assume that it has and start immunizing yourself if your titer is low.
Please consult a doctor immediately.

Thanks Ram,
I have been dog bit many times, and have taken all the necessary precautions. I keep surgical scrub and topical antibiotics on hand all the time. It hurts like H E Double-Hockeysticks to do it, but I use a fingernail brush and Provon soap to scrub the bite out. I am also vaccinated against rabies every 3 years. I usually get bit somewhere in the middle east by a dog that looks like it's ready to keel over from some disease at any moment.
Kory: I will never understand people and their dogs. I usually just shake my head and steer clear.
I'm going to publish the book as soon as I have time to finish it. I am working with a editor on what is written so far, and planning the rest of the book. It's all about free time right now. I have to be in the right frame of mind to write, and I can't do it 20 minutes at a time. I have a feeling that when I get back to Afghanistan, the chapters will start flowing again. Thanks for the encouragement!
