We usually do most of our training at home, rarely outside. I'll try the mental excercises tomorrow and see how it goes.

I wonder about your crate placement,can the puppy see you from his crate or does he feel isolated.Putting a crate in the bed room at night helps too. Also like to toss some tiny treats through the top of the crate whenever the puppy is quiet,he should learn being quiet equals tasty treats.
