God Becky, poor wee girl, I hope she continues to recover well.
I am quite adept at removing harvest spiders, because my daughter gets the vapors at the sight of a money spider, and I am superstitious about killing them, but I would make an exception in the case of a Black Widow!
One of the reasons my daughter says she wouldn't go to Australia is she has seen Funnel Web spiders on TV, and says no way is she going to risk a spider bite to her bum!
Shows how ignorant I am about spiders and bugs in the US, I didn't even know you had Black Widows there!
And yeah, if there is something that will kill you, eat you, or poison you, it's in Australia! I always said that if I ever went to Australia I would only swim in a hotel pool, but that's out, too! Funnel webs like to get into pools to cool off!
Looking good. Most all of the swelling is now gone and only a small amount of drainage. (I'm still doing an Epsom salt soak twice a day to pull that crap out). It doesn't look like there is going to be much tissue loss - there is an area about dime-sized that is open, but no evidence of tissue death.
Money spiders are titchy little buggers about the size of a pin head, that us peculiar Brits are taught from our mother's knee are lucky if you find the end of it's web, and then wind it over our heads clockwise 3 times, will bring good fortune - the fact I am living in a 2 bedroomed hutch with not a penny in my purse tells you we are a bunch of superstitious chumps, who generally talk a load of balls
Glad to hear that it looks like she dodged a bullit on this round. Nice save there doggie nurse. Good thing that you could get a quick start on her care on this since you have good vet experience. She's a lucky girl.
Elsa update.... Looking really good; area is healing with only a bit of "thickening" right around the original bite. I'm massaging that area a couple-three times a day. In other news, one of our pups that comes to training showed up Sat. with a hole right under his nose! It literally looked as if someone had taken a Barbie-sized ice cream scoop to him right under his nose. His owner said he was getting into the car on Friday and that he had put out his hand to get him to "wait" and touched him on the muzzle with the flat of his hand. He yelped and cried like he'd been hit and when the owner went look close, that little piece of flesh and skin just "came out". Looks like another spider victim to me, especially since that is right where he would get it after "smushing" one with his nose. I told him to get him in to his vet to get some antibiotics, but unfortunatly, there won't be any soaking him without drowning him! Even trying to hold a warm cloth on it will be problamatic. Hopefully he'll heal as quickly as Elsa did.
