I came home and he ate all the good from this morning as soon as I let him back inside. I gave him another cup and then a half of the chicken food and he ate it immediately. Maybe there is an issue with the freshness/quality of the kibble I already have?
You know, I said this a couple weeks ago. I just really want to do some reading on feeding raw. I can't believe I would consider it at this moment but with the way my business is going, when is going to be the right moment? I just don't want to give up the convenience of kibble, feeding him 5 times a day, and we treat with kibble a lot. And I know raw and kibble is not a good mix. (Sigh) I must want to never sleep. And instead stay up all night reading. J
Julie, do you still have the bags of Orijen & Acana?
When did you last purchase it?
They experienced a kitchen fire in September, whatever was out there was out there until repair. It's been pretty scarce,IF you can find it at all. I'd check the date on the bag and make sure you didn't purchase an out of date bag.
I just bought the origen chicken today. The acana and the other bag of origen probably two months ago. The store I use is a little ma and pa place and I know the owner. She keeps very little food on the shelves, but I will double check the bags I have, if I still have them. This would be three separate bags I am trying to feed him from.
Today is the first day I am noticing him sleeping maybe a little bit more than usual, but maybe I am looking for something to be amiss.
Not to be a stickler, here, but Orijen adult formula is not only chicken, but turkey and salmon is also in the food.
So, you are actually feeding a couple protein sources at once, not just exclusively chicken.
Same for the Regional Red, which has wild boar, beef , lamb and salmon.
I wonder if maybe it just doesn't agree with your dog? I actually have known several dogs ( I work in a dog store) that have had lose stool on Orijen.
I am unsure why, just that I have heard of this happening.
I wonder some times if too many proteins at once, for some dogs, is just hard to digest?
Not sure, but it might explain why some dogs have soft stool and some do not?
Just brainstorming....?
Thanks Joyce, I did know about the multiple proteins. I guess I just call it chicken because I was trying to stay away from that. But until I was rereading bags yesterday I had forgotten there was already some fish in this one so when I started adding a little fish awhile back I was actually adding extra. Not what I was looking for.
Tanka has been eating this since he was about a year old, and he was 3 in oct. he came from taste of the wild after I found this site and learned about feeding better. He made a big improvement after the switch as he had been having constant intestinal problems. We have been pretty happy with it so far.
I really appreciate the input. Everything is helpful.
