Overall pretty good.....
She's a bit of a resource guarder when it comes to other dogs. Inappropriately so (guards people). Ryuk's given her the puppy card, but I admit, I'm looking forward to the day he revokes it. My redirections don't really "hit home" for her, his inevitable correction will, and I know he's fair and solid in his corrections, so when that day comes I'm going to let him do it. She is NOT a dominant dog, and she does not want to fight, but she is a pushy brat puppy and is seeing what she can get away with. Gambit's letting her get away with murder as a combination of "puppy card" and "intact female". I've been stepping in to keep her from trying to push him around because I KNOW that he won't correct her, he's 100% non-confrontational with dogs. Ryuk's also making sure to help redirect her attention away from Gambit at least until the puppy card part has been revoked.
She's still on a line obviously (and will be for quite a while). She doesn't "like" people (except for my housemates and I), so we're working on human neutrality. The main issue is she doesn't have a tail, so both people and dogs seem to miss her body language cue that "no, I really don't feel like being social thanks". Ryuk picks it up, so does Gam....but I'm going to guess she overreacts because the dogs she used to live with didn't, and with the claims that she's "super human friendly" I'm going to guess the people didn't either. She doesn't like people who don't speak dog, which IMO is 100% valid, she doesn't want to be everyone's friend, she wants one or two people to cuddle with on her own terms and wants the rest of the people in the world to ignore her. She has the same issue Ryuk had, people WANT to pet her because she's cool looking (in her case it's more that she's adorable, looks like a fox with no tail). We're working on a greet command and on handler focus to learn to ignore whatever people around her on doing.
On the plus side she's about as smart as Ryuk and about 50X more food motivated...which means 5 repeats and she's got a command. She can sit and down from any direction at this point which is kind of awesome. She's also learned "skuttle" which is this cute little wiggle backwards from the down position. We managed to capture it during a training session and she'll now do it on command. She likes food but has NO real handler focus....if she gets a toy she runs off with it, she has the retrieving instinct of a bowl of soup, she has no interest in engaging with a handler (likes tug, doesn't understand it takes two to the play the game though). That being said once she decides she likes someone she will keep an orbit around them, she may not interact but she'll be a ninja hiding in your shadow.
My housemates REALLY want to keep her. However they'll be first time dog owners and while I have no problems helping, I do not want a third dog. I've told them they need to wait 2 weeks (and have been making them do all of the obnoxious gross chores lol) and if they do still want to keep her OB classes are mandatory. On one side she will bond like glue to the person who's going to be her actual handler and owner and has already shown that she really REALLY likes this person.
Her potential owner, while a first time dog owner, IS the type who can do the "jump into the deep end" method in this case, she was considering a dog, has done the research, she's very interested in more than just "pet dog" training, this is just a bit sooner than intended (she was looking at getting a young puppyin the next two years). I've been letting her handle my boys since I moved in and she's come out with me to help train with them. She's one of the only people I've ever seen Ryuk take a non-trick or non-basic command from and she isn't afraid to lay down rules and enforce them. This puppy IS sort of the type of dog that would work for her if we can get some of her "I hate everything" behaviors properly under control. She'd be push button to train and I could see her excelling pretty much any of the most common dog sports at least at the lower levels. She rides well in the car, crate training is getting there, and my housemate isn't the type who needs a dog who loves all people, she just needs to NOT try to correct them even if they're not being good with the dogs or be happy in the crate while there are people over (she's currently perfectly happy in the crate with people around, and my housemates' friends need to learn that dogs are not obligated to cuddle up with you anyway...so this could work)
