They're becoming more widespread in the USA, unfortunately Yahoo has a video that can be accessed by typing "intense botfly infestation" into their search engine -- Dogs are definitely susceptible to them, as are livestock, wildlife & even people ... Nasty Monsters !!!

Think I'd stop putting anything on it, stop rubbing it, see what happens. The blood supply to the muzzle is fabulous, most skin things heal easily. Looks like a tiny abcess (zit) on my computer---do you have a cat? If you start seeing a bunch more of them that would be a different matter. Sounds like great advice. And thank goodness, botfly is not in my top ten (or top 1000) guesses for that.

Unfortunately, it's quite awhile later that the hellish Myiasis ensues Hopefully, this is pretty much no big deal & will end up going away all by itself, soon enough !!!
