Okay, she had some logs. They were semi-firm, but had an orange tint to them-maybe from the pumpkin?
She seems to be feeling better now, and wants to play.
We did call the vet, he didn't seem too concerned. Just wanted to run a fecal, and said to feed rice and cottage cheese. I get way more help and info from you all! We will call him back tomorrow if things don't improve.
We'll stay the course the next few days. I picked up the nylabone for now.
I personally would toss the nylabone permanately. I hate those things. They are killers if the dog breaks off a piece. They DON'T disolve or breakdown in the dog. They either pass the piece whole or end up with a obstruction. I would not give one to my dogs. JMO
I had a 5 mo old pup break off a piece of one of the ones labeled & intended for aggressive chewer adult dogs. Fortunately I was sitting right there & tossed the whole thing out & never got another one. Funny as this was the first one I had ever purchased.
I know a lot of folks use antlers...I never have. Again I think it might depend on how aggressive of a chewer you have. I might think that an adult dog maybe can fracture a tooth chewing on one. But it would most likely be fine for a pup to chew on.
Maybe someone who uses them will see this & chime in.
I have been adding pumpkin, it hasn't helped so far. I'm almost out, and I don't think it can be found this time of year.
Hi Christy, you can find canned pumpkin on Amazon. If you go there and do a search for "canned pumpkin" the first result that comes up is the Farmer's Market Organic Pumpkin. It comes in a case and it's what I feed my GSD all the time, it's good stuff!
If your dog has a long history of giardia and has been in a kennel situation and now has diarrhea, I guess I'd be thinking that having some Flagyl around would be prudent.
Perhaps you can manage this bout of loose stool with diet, but if not, Rx for giardia would certainly be my next step.
Well, it's still loose.
We started the rice, chicken and pumpkin diet Saturday morning, since then only one random solid poop.
She seems like she feels fine.
In the past we have treated the giardia with Panacure. Is that the standard treatment, or is there something better on the market. How do we get RID of it?? She came to us from the breeder at 3 months with it, and I feel like she has never gotten rid of it.
Should we do ANOTHER fecal?
I just ordered more pumpkin, thanks for the suggestion. I would have never thought of Amazon for pumpkin.
We have a vet appointment on Friday, her doctor doesn't seem too concerned.
