I don't see any problem with the distance of the parent in this case. For contrast, I wish the video was still up (or for all I know, someone here may have saved it) but does anyone remember the video of the Akita and the baby about this same age in a play-circle-seat-thingy? The baby was laughing gleefully just like this, but the dog, OTOH, was CLEARLY regarding the child as prey and getting bolder by the minute. You could almost see the dogs' thought balloon over his head, "Wow, that looks tasty! I'm not 100% sure I can grab it and eat it without getting in trouble, though." The parents got so many comments, including PLEADING from many Akita groups that they took it down. It was frightening.

I sure do remember that one.
Along with the one I received in "oooh, cute" email forwards for YEARS of the Mastiff on the baby while the insane parent took a series of photos. The title was always something like "How to Hug a Baby" surrounded by smilie faces.

I link the sender to Ed's "DANGEROUS INSANE PHOTOS" at http://leerburg.com/kidbites.htm every time with a brief note to "see where else these photos are featured; just scroll down to "DANGEROUS INSANE PHOTOS."
Telling one ignorant person at a time is better than nothing, I figure.
