Comfortis has been the only thing that's worked for my dogs too. There's been a MMMAAASSSIIIVVVEEE flea outbreak here; every 2nd person coming into the clinic had flea issues. Most of the time they're using Frontline spray or topical treatment. This just doesn't work any more, and if it does it's only very limited. So comfortis all the way!! However, people still need to use a topical treatment to keep away paralysis ticks (which are still out, despite the fact that they're supposed to be dormant this time of year) in my area.
As for treating fleas in the home - do you have mortein over there? They have 'flea bombs' which are these canisters full of insecticide. You put one in each room, press the button down and leave the house for 2 hours. It kills everything. Obviously animals, water and food bowls and the like should be removed also. They destroy the entire lifecycle of the flea, from egg to breeding adult. A good vacuum is needed after, and I like to wipe down all benches before the dogs come back inside.
Out door treatment is really quite pointless IMO. There will always be wild/feral/stray animals that bring the fleas back. And using insecticide outside can drive other creepy crawlies in your house for protection - if you had funnel webs over there, this would turn you off! It also creates a vacuum effect; fleas from neighbouring territories go 'hey, look at all this prime real estate!' Which can create a population boom (this is a common phenomenon in all attempts to locally eradicate any species). Keeping grass short, clipping back bushes and limiting the amount of open dirt in the yard all make me feel better, but I'm not sure how effective this is...
Helping the teacher make the copies and getting to smell the gelatinous substance that made the copies probably motivated me more than cleaning the chalk board.
Of course I love the smell of sharpies too.
I call it eccentric - not weird hahaha
Have to find out more about Comfortis. It would help if my neighbors dogs were treated for fleas but the owners don't believe in it as they tell me their dogs aren't bothered by them We share the yard so ....
