well my motivation just hit rock bottom. It is raining and cold.
Dexter is pretending to be dead so he can stay in. I can pull, poke, tease him with food. He just can't find the fun in the wet cold mud.
Harley is happy to work in the indoor arena but does not like my new sand. He does get turned off. He chase the ball but will drop it a few time on the way back and spit some sand out. YUM
His ob still look good but I can see that he is very happy to stay dry and warm in the house. So lot of fast position changes, heel with sit and down in motion.
I should kick my butt and work on send way.
All tracking place I normally use are just under water.
Now I will be under my bed sucking on my thumb in a fetal position.

May I join this thread? I have an 11-week-old puppy, a St. Bernard/GSD mix with hopes and dreams of a BH title one day.
Tonight - Basic commands and tug, and, as always, working on the mouthing
Tomorrow - Socialization at the outdoor farmer's market with tons of treats for strangers to give out and a bunch of romping in the backyard
Sunday - Short hike on the trails, at his pace, hoping to meet some friendly on-leash dogs and do a little socialization. Otherwise, bringing treats for strangers we meet.

Of course you may join the thread!
You might want to get other POVs about turning strangers into treat dispensers .... This might be better done on a separate thread that's just about this.
This isn't my socialization MO. I don't want my dogs to expect or look for treats from strangers.
Are you perhaps doing focus work at home, which would then be proofed (gradually) for change of venue and level of distraction?
JMO!

"Short hike on the trails, at his pace, hoping to meet some friendly on-leash dogs and do a little socialization."
You might want to start a thread about both this and treat-dispensing strangers.
For me, socialization is not strange-dog-meet-and-greet. In fact, I don't want that. I want my dog to be tolerant of and to pretty much ignore strange dogs. I want him to be non-reactive.

----Instead----
Tonight - Work on basic commands and tug, watch training videos
Tomorrow - Head to the farmer's market, but I'm keeping the treats to myself and giving them to the pup, maybe working with him a bit away from the busy market.
Sunday - Still hiking, but we'll politely keep to ourselves. Treats for calmly passing strangers (dogs and people) and focusing on me.

I just started a carting course with Sasha so we are working on putting the harness (3XL!) on properly. This is a little tricky as my girl is scared of things going over her head. Patience and lots of really good treats and she's putting her head right into the harness (even if her eyes are scrunched closed).
We are also taking a Sport Detection course (Canadian version of Nosework). I'm trying to decide what I want Sasha to use as an indication. I was trying to get her to lie down but it seems she wants to do a play bow instead of going all the way down. Sitting has her head too far away from the source so maybe I'll just let her use the playbow as an indication.

The revised plan worked great this weekend. Our pup sat quietly at outdoor seating at a restaurant, ignoring strangers and a strange dog that walked by. He ignored strangers passing close by him on a short walk in the mountains. He even did great proofing some basic commands in a crowded Home Depot. Every time he started to get distracted by a stranger, I redirected him back to me, asking for sits, downs, and the like and treating him.
What we're working on now:
Today - Having watched the 8 weeks to 8 months video, we're working daily on getting him not to jump up in his ex-pen and getting him used to the tub, putting him in it dry for a treat, then taking him back out. We're also still working on the nipping, which is slowly, slowly improving. This evening, we'll be playing tug again and I'm getting him used to a baby pool in the backyard, luring him with treats into the water a bit more each day.
Baby (puppy) steps.
Oh...and after his bedtime, we'll be starting the marker training video.
