Is it way cheaper to do all raw than THK? My poodles are 40-50lbs. When I did raw last time I didn't really know where to buy. I found a butcher who was able to sell me a big case of chicken necks and when I got it home it was frozen in a huge block. I had to take it in the back and hose it down for hours and try to chip away at it, so I was getting raw germs all over where my kids play and it took hours. Then after I had thawed it to break it up I had to refreeze it, which is kind of a general no-no. So then I was freaked out about that. Like I said, *disaster*
So if I am reading the site correctly, the thrive diet from THK would be $3.28 per dog per day. So with 4 dogs, that's almost $400 a month. Can that be right? Better not present it to the hubby that way!
I found this forum before I took my pup home but I found so much more than just training advice.
I had planned on putting my older dog on the Dinovite diet but was waiting for the supplements to arrive.
In the meantime I told Connie about my plan to put my 5.5 year old tiny poodle on it and she checked out the ingredients and suggested giving her THK and add-ins, plus the fish oil and the Vit E.
After 3 + years of trying everything to get my dog to stop breaking out in rashes and being so itchy, she started to get well. Now, 3 months later, she has a beautiful healthy itch-free coat.
When the Dinovite supplements got here, I smelled the tube of one of the supplements, went ewwww, and it all went into the garbage. I didn't want to jump through the hoops to get my money back so I just chalked it up to the price of learning.
My pup - who at 4.5 months is 61 lbs., is on THK and raw add-ins and he is just a perfect size. Not too skinny but lean. He loved THK (Love) from the first taste and will eat it straight but I stretch it with less expensive but healthy raw balanced add-ins.
Given how much money I spent on the poodle over 3 years trying to heal her skin issues, I could feed 5 dogs THK and still come out ahead financially.
I have a lot to learn about training him but at least I won't have to worry about my dogs’ food.
Oh and I use THK (Force) to make training treats and they taste delicious - yep, I ate one as all THK is human grade. Yes, bake for the dogs and not for us lol.
