Hello Asit . Welcome. I am from India too. First of all , may I request you to type out full words and not abbreviations. People who come to this forum in the future will benefit by searching on words that are found in the topic. Hope you will take this in the right spirit.
Yes, it is very hard to find marker trainers in India, so the best thing for you would be to learn it yourself. It is very easy.
If you have the time and the inclination and if you are serious about having a better relationship with your dog, I can help you.
Ram

I don't believe he's in the US but there are politics involved with any human activity so even if he'd be showing under FCI rules, politics are a given (more so as you advance and get better at handling). If you can find handling classes be sure and take them. It definitely is not as easy as it looks. But do watch experienced and/or professional handlers. You can learn from them. You can learn how to dye a dog, drug a dog, get orthodontist work on a dog, plastic surgery on a dog, yadda, yadda! I finished five CHs on four different terrier breeds and saw it all. In the classes I had no problems with good dogs. Undefeated to the CH with a couple of them to their CH. Once I finished them the Specials class is where the big guns take over although I had a few group placements and a group win with a couple of my dogs. I started getting beat by dogs that never even went reserve to mine. Just enjoy it and know the realities. Learn the judges likes and dislikes AND who your competition is at BOTH ends of the leash. More so at the top end. The GSD ring in America is the absolute WORST offender with the double handling rule. It's like a circus around their ring......and the dogs are butt ugly! did I say that with my out loud voice?
Sadly, this is absolutely correct. There are definitely things you don't want to learn (or shouldn't any way)LOL. And, yes, you did say that with your loud voice but truth is truth! So, keep saying it!!!

This is something I never understood about conformation. Isn't it simply (obviously it's not, of course) the dog which most closely meets the breed standard that wins? Where is the competition in that?

I'm a total outsider, but I'm guessing that part of the competition is for the breeder, and maybe part for the person who shows the dog to best advantage? Maybe showing the dog's "attitude" (as described in the standards) is something that's sometimes challenging to demonstrate?
It will be interesting to read answers from those with conformation experience.

I agree; I certainly understand why a breeder would want to show, that make perfect sense. I just don' understand why a handler would want to.
The "attitude" is something I would like to learn more about. I feel that this competition is very mysterious and I look forward to learning more.

"Attitude" is hard to describe but you know it when you see it even if, like myself, you've shown in conformation rarely or even never shown at all.
It's more difficult (at least for me), but not impossible, to see on television than in person. In general it's the dog (or dogs) that just seem to say, "look at me. I'm the only one here!"
For example, the first year I viewed Westminster in the herding, sporting groups and best in show rings (the only ones I caught that year) there were two dogs, a GSD and Pointer, that just had so much "attitude" that all others just seemed to fade into the background. That year the Pointer went BiS. The GSD did the same the following year.

Without attitude a terrier has no business in the show ring.
