i suggest separate runs for your training issue. if you plan on working the dogs together in the future, when they are stressed they will often turn to one another for support. i had a similar problem when i first started training, with to malinois. they were litter mates and i had them in the same run. i'm not saying to separate them all together, but definately don't let them spend all their time together.
We have abandoned chain link kennel runs forever. We used chain link at my kennel and never, ever again. Now that I keep only my own personal dogs at home, we switched to the powder coated metal kennel panels, we're using Priefert right now. What a difference! There is no way even our maniac dog can hurt himself on this stuff, it should be zero maintenance (no more dogs w/too much time on their paws unraveling the chain link at the bottom of their runs), they don't even bother to attempt to get out. And they assemble in about 5 mins. We've got them set up on the concrete patio, which is covered. Stall mats and kennel decks for flooring. We only bought a top for maniac boy. So far, so good.
Will never, ever, ever go back to chain link. Tho we did have better luck w/the galvanized steel but I'm sold on the powder coated metal from this day forward.
And absolutely, positively yes. Each dog should have his/her own run.
Awesome! It's always fun to meet folks from these boards in person : )
Watch for us Sun, be looking for a smallish black sable male GSD who bounces off all 4's like a JRT along w/a 3 mo old blk & red puppers : ) And a dh who threw his back out who will be hobbling around, griping a lot, and making me do all the work.
I know it's a little late to jump in here but I found a solution to the digging that kills 2 birds with one stone; scoop the poop and put it in the holes...I scraped some dirt over top of that and it worked pretty darn well. As to the kennel issue there were a lot of great points raised. I do have one question though....why no chain-link fencing?

Glad it's worked for you but i've yet to find a dog that doesn't just dig up the poop and continue digging!! Just my experience.. it's worth a try! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I think some dogs just love digging, like many terriers, and for others it's boredom.
