Praise alone wont get him over his fear of the crate whereas using markers can build a positive behavior out of getting in there. old dogs LOVE to learn new tricks

Clarify by spelling every little thing out. Some people can be extreme when drawing their own conclusions.

ian bunbury Webboard User Reg: 01-19-2012 Posts: 685 Loc: whistler bc ca Offline	i'm glad that things are moving in the right direction . . . but not being one to pass on a " teachable " moment , i just wanted to bring up the relative values of praise vs food vs toy as a motivational tool . of those three , with most dogs praise is often the lower value . of course i wasn't there to witness your process , but if the dog had a foundation in marker training , not only would the process most likely have gone smoother , but would have provided yet another opportunity to build the relationship and the dogs' engagement with you by creating another " rewardable " behaviour . dogs : the best part of being human
