Harley sound like your boy, hyper excitable...
He will do every thing fast, I had a tread a while back on teaching him "real calm" has he would do any thing asked but still he had that high energy vibe almost like an internal excited shiver.
He is still very sensitive to people energy. Any one with high internal energy will make him nuts.
I had to learn to not just be calm on the out side but inside too.
My boy is now almost 4yo and still there are people who I won't let him near as he will turn into a crazy playful in your face beast. He can now be calm for real with me and when on leash and with most people.
I had to be consistent 100% or we would be 10 steps back. I just love that dog so much because he is so much fun to work with today but now he has an off button.
Lol I think I'm calm. I'm usually a mellow person. Yeah, when I come in I can't control my thoughts, I'm worried about what's going to happen and also extremely happy to see him.
It's hard to control my feelings, I can control the outside appearance but not my feelings. I do try lol
From years of teaching riding I found that one big challenge is to trust that you can do it.
Some how with my dog I have to be detach and boring to some point when I want him calm. Be cause boy Oh boy she is thinking! ABOUT THE DOG, Whoo Hoo! Me!
Thinking about doing the dishes helped me. I hate doing the dishes, I am a master at avoiding doing the dishes
I don't mean to take threads off topic but things come to my head. I was reading Nick Logan's thread and someone said to him that if Gambit had a choice he wouldn't've picked him (nick) so that has me thinking if my dog would've picked me if he had the choice.
Dogs are not cars and you need a dog that fit you or you fit your dog. when they are young they can be a PITA.
If I could go back I would never had let the BF pick Dexter. But he is here and staying. On the other hand I will never have 2 Harley. I don't have the energy or the time for 2 of that.
Harley is just getting a bit less crazy, nearing 4yo. I have learn and it is rewarding, now. I had days where I could have given up or worst but the good days were so worth it.
I have at the moment 2 very high energy horses, one of them is on stall rest and there is a chain and lock on her door she can be that wild. That is my choice to have such beast in my life and I have to do what is best for them.
I am who I am because of them. Or they just make that side of my shine more, cool, clam, firm, collected but very clear so they know what to expect.
I have chosen them, now I do what I have to be their leader. Boy did some of them kept me on my toes.
