Tracy's post above is billboard-worthy! I'm going to really try to have that advice foremost in my mind when it comes time for me to choose a new pack member.
I have one dog I believe would choose me again in an instant. My other one, if given a chance, might want to choose a younger, more athletic and active owner, one who could take him for long runs. Although I think he's happy with many other aspects of our life together.
Gosh, I never get tired of seeing Michael's vacuuming in the pack video. It's a classic!
I didn't see the video. Can you describe what happens?
They look so comfy))))) I will post my doggie on my bed a few months ago later lol
I've been trying to stop letting him on and I just can't. I like it as much as he does.
I'm divided on this. I know that he shouldn't and he's dirty (he IS dirty, I wash him once a month or so and all the dirt from the park is on my bed, I can see it) but whatever

You're in luck!
The original posting of the video didn't work for a few posters, so there's a recap of it at http://leerburg.com/webboard/newpost.php?topic_id=29062"e=318335&post_parent_id=318335
"Two Michael-feet marching along with leashed JRT "in the zone" beside these feet. (This dog is bookin'! This is a good pace for a dog walk! OK ... no more editorial comment.) From the side of the walkway, three unleashed strays join the walk, forming a parade. And they stay! Trotting along nicely to keep pace! (One is a little bigger and isn't working quite as hard to keep pace, but no one is ambling along. They have decided to join and they keep up!)"
I know, isn't it amazing when they override fear and instinct (to flee) and trust us no matter what. If I could bottle that feeling Id be a millionaire.
Still can't see the video and the description only makes me want to see it more...

My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
Ohh this one? I saw. I thought ME because you said vacuuming and I don't remember vacuuming in the other video.
I must've misunderstood some expression.
I have to disagree about leading in that video. If strays are not scared of people then they will follow in hopes of getting food.
I don't know about the pack leader concept with dogs. As someone said, they know we are not dogs so you can't describe (define) our relationship with them using the living model of the wolves or stray dogs.
Some other rules come into place IMO. Once I think about it some more I might understand what they are. Right now it's a feeling.
ETA when he describes the establishing pack structure, he just lists establishing house rules and I don't disagree on those. I disagree on the leadership mentality, whatever that is.
Love is NOT enough, structure, discipline, rules.
