If you want the dog to change his behavior, you're going to have to make some changes in your training. I think the most obvious one would be your reward system.
One of the first things you and your dog learn in a marker system is how to work and remain clear-headed in drive (food drive, in this case). My dog has extremely high food drive. She has learned to settle down and obey if she wants to access a reward.
Marker training is worth learning and will save you from much down the line and when "things" pop up (and they will). Once you start MT, you'll look back and wonder why you waited doing it. :-)
thank you for all the advice, I will get reading and watching, been curious about it (marker training)but never tried it out fully. The class we are in uses it I think, we are learning watch me and using treats. Yes I sometimes wonder why I was deadest on a mal, she sure tries my patience, but the last few weeks we have been bonding and shes starting to grow on me and I think she realizes we aren't going to ditch her like her last owners and is bonding to us as well. All I would say to anyone who wants one now is you can read up all you want and think you are fairly dog savy but having one in your house day in day out is a whole different thing, my whole entire schedule and life revolve fully around her, and we lived dog centered lives before its just another level now lol!! I am excited to work with her though, thanks again
old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown
