We started the shots about 5 years ago. Then at the beginning of this year the sublingual stuff came out and we tried that. It was a pain and didn't work as well - you have to do it twice a day under the tongue and they can't eat or drink for 15 minutes afterwards, so you have to either pick up the water or watch em. I opted for one shot twice a month! It's a little cheaper too.

I paid $1.60 per pill for Apoquel. (Both dosage sizes were the same price.)
Dosing is 2x per day for the first two weeks, then one dose per day thereafter. So, for Cinco (or your dog) $45 bucks for the first two weeks, then 11 bucks a week thereafter.
I wonder if after it becomes more widely available if it will be for sale at internet pharmacies like 1800PetMeds, for cheaper

Well that is totally doable! Forty-five a month, and if it works then I would probably stop the shots because they are not a miracle thing for Kasey. They help take the edge off, but he still itches a lot. I left a message for my vet today and she'll call me Tuesday when she's back from convention.

It's a Christmas miracle. A week ago, poor Cinco was an uncomfortable mess, with several spots that he had scratched raw and hairless, me following behind him spraying the spots with lidocaine, constantly worried that he needed to go outside again (even the lowest dose of prednisone made him pee constantly). We've been just barely keeping his itching under control (mostly failing) for two years. Twice weekly baths with medicated shampoo...ten different antihistamines...prednisone...topical gels, creams and sprays.
Since Wednesday night after he had the first dose of the new med, he has not scratched himself a single time. I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.
