No John, I do not feel picked on and I am not getting angry. Looking back, I KNOW now that I have let him get away with murder. I know that I need him to respect me and I have not been dealing with it correctly. I have read Ed's articles about dominance and I have started to make some changes in our household. Will let you know...
Agneta, you already seem to know when and why he jumps..First correct him from jumping up..Step on his back feet..if he comes for more of a jump..swiftly take your fist and pop him on the top of the head.If he settles..then take him out on lead with many sits...only.
I'd not use either the pinch collar or the Ecollar at this stage. I'd go back to some basic dominance exercise, among them yielding. Hitting the dog on top of the head or any other physical approach can escalate the violence rather than decrease it. Of course that depends on where he is on the dominance scale right now.
For two weeks I'd go back to hand feeding ONLY and yielding. Those will help to reestablish you as the dominant animal. A discussion on yielding can be found a couple of screens down at
One more comment about the use of the Ecollar for this problem. About the last thing I'd do with that tool is to give the dog a high level stim when he's biting or headed for the bite. That MAY stop it but more likely it could result in you headed for the ER.
Lou Castle has been kicked off this board. He is an OLD SCHOOL DOG TRAINER with little to offer.
