The temps & wind chills here in SW CT has been record setting...the likes of which we have not seen in 18 years. Not the usual at all for my area.
Most of today was all freezing rain until the afternoon. I have gone thru more containers of the pet paw safe ice melt stuff in the last couple of weeks then I usually go through in an entire winter season.
I feel sorry for you folks that are in the area of the country that is usually this cold in winter & getting even colder temps.
This is a crazy winter temperature-wise. Last year we have some record snow falls of over 2 & 3 feet

10 - 15 inches of dry blowing snow and predicted to NOT get above 0(f) tomorrow. We haven't had anything like that in 30 + yrs.
The only good thing about it is that the usual heavy, wet snows knock out the power in this area.
Generator is tested and full just in case.
We usually get 3-4-5 power outs a year but most are only 2-3 hours. Whe've been out as long as 8 days but that's not the norm.
The wife and I were talking to a salesman in a store last week. He was originally from Minnesota. He said they got used to the snow and the cold up there but can't handle it here in St. Louis. One day it's in the 60s (two weeks ago) and in the single digits the nest week. I told him neither can we and we live here.

The snowfall seems to be over, for a while, anyway. We ended up with roughly 10 inches from this latest, on top of 8 we already had on the ground. Towns just north of us got more.
It's supposed to go down to 12 or 15 below tonight, with wind chills from 30 to 45 below, and a high of only zero tomorrow. We'll probably break some records, too.
My husband is on his way outside to plow and snow-blow. He's wearing his heated vest and gloves (which normally are used for riding the Harley in chilly weather).
My horse is not going to be happy about it, but she's staying in the barn today and tomorrow. She's 26 years old and has a good case of arthritis. At least the barn is dry and out of the wind.

From the New Year's Day snow and this weekend's blizzard, I have over 20+ inches of snow in my back yard here in SE Michigan. I dug out a trench for my GSD to use to get to the back part of my yard. He, of course, didn't use it and loved bouncing up and down into the fresh snow. So much for my efforts.
It's supposed to be bitterly cold here over the next couple of days with wind chill factors as low as -35F. I am not looking forward to explaining to my GSD that his outside time needs to be limited to 5 minutes or less for the next couple of days!

It's a balmy 2 degrees here today! Lake Michigan is keeping things a tad warmer on the west side of the state. Windchills are well below zero and we're getting hammered with lake effect snow. About 20" on the ground right now. Lots of blowing and drifting snow with near white out conditions at times.
According to the dogs, it's perfect frisbee weather! But I called it quits after 10 minutes of play this morning

Last night when I finished work at 9:00, I walked outside and it was a balmy 0C (32F) with no wind chill.
Tonight when I finish work it will be -21C (-6F) with a bone chilling -36C (-33F) wind chill.
What the heck is up with all this crazy weather? I don't ever remember such a drastic tempurature swing. No wonder so many people are getting sick. I need to win the lottery and move somewhere warm.

Last week, temps started to drop from 3C to -25C with wind chill......dogs went Urban Mushing every day from 6km to 12km. Last night, blizzard conditions, we did a 2 hour, 15km trip mushing. Despite the ice and slush and salt, their paws are great. The key to enjoying the winter weather is proper clothing and footwear. Now if I could only find waterproof running shoes and heated handlebars!

We hit our cold spell about 3-4 weeks ago, with the coldest day this year being -48C.
Now we have a nice balmy -6 to -14C HOWEVER - we got about 2 1/2 - 3 feet of snow within a week at my house! The amount of snow we got broke records in the Yukon! We have had the driveway plowed twice and still managed to get both trucks stuck yesterday.
The dogs of course love a good romp in the fresh powder now that it is warm, and we have been taking the kicksled out now that there is enough snow!

-8 last night and -4 presently but it hasn't gotten above 0 for at least 24 hrs. Very uncommon here.
I've never seen things so shut down like this.
40s and rain by Thursday.
