yes I have started basic training with gambit that's my dogs name and he seems to be doing really good with it would it be posible to change his name or should i stick with it since he is 7yrs old. and Pete I checked out the picture of your dog and i just want to add that your german shepherd was beautiful.
Changing his name shouldn't be a problem. Just select the new name and use it instead of the current name. It shouldn't take long for him to figure it out.

I think you may have misunderstood Vince, he was referring to a video called "Basic Dog Obedience" that Ed sells.
Also the picture I posted on this site (a no-no, according to Ed, but I didn't know that at the time ) isn't my dog. It's a puppy that came through my GSD rescue from an abandoned pregnant bitch. All the pups found homes, I'm happy to say.
If you'd like to see MY dog, there are a couple of pictures of him here (Thanks to Tommy Jensen in Denmark who set up the web page).
Pete I went onto the web site you refered to and checked out the photo and I believe the (desertthunderk9.com) was the photo of your dog under articles correct that was the photo I was refering to. and thanks yes I did misunderstand about the Obedience video but understand now thanks
When we introduced my last german shepherd to my kids, we first set some BIG ground rules with the kids...no grabbing the dog to hug him, try not to make serious "staring down" eye contact, come with bribes (extra tasty treats), extend your hands slowly and cautiously to the dog ..and my husband held him on a leash (loosely to not set the dog up to be tense) while I stood kind of perpindicular to the dog so that if the dog looked stressed or unhappy . ..I could remove the kids promptly.Luckily it all went off without a hitch. My kids were also very young when they were introduced to him. The point Im trying to mae is that well trained kids can make the difference on how it goes.
But I also knew a bit about the dogs history and it wasnt good news. in the almost 7 yrs he was alive in this house he never bit the kids but did do some mouthing if they got out of hand with him...then promptly went to his crate which was explained to our children that, that was totally totally his space to be utterly left alone in if he chose to go into it. The guy that went into my yard at nite that wound up w/ 40-some-odd stitches...well thats another story !
