I considered getting a GoPro but wound up just getting a cheap tripod adapter for my iPhone and a tripod. I cheaped out too much on the tripod($15). It's too unstable for the slightest wind even with just the light iPhone on it. Indoors only.
If you have an active secondhand market like Craigslist around you can find people who are dumping nearly new GoPros pretty frequently. They buy it for a weekend and don't realize that most retailers have caught on to that and only offer an exchange rather than credit or refund. Now they need the money so they dump the GoPro.
I wish Flip camera was still making cameras. That thing survived some pretty rough conditions in Afghanistan and took great videos.
I don't know anything about video cameras, so this is strictly from the POV of an online video viewer. It seems you're too far away from the camera and you're in heavy shade for most of it, both of which make it hard to see details. Also, another poster already mentioned this, but I believe a three- to four-minute-max video will get a lot more clicks than an eleven-minute one. Just sayin'.
Rob, from what I can tell, this is a very nice dog with a great work ethic! I don't know what your plans are for him, but with that kind of enthusiasm, focus, and attention (and assuming he can maintain handler focus with other dogs around), I think you have a long list of potential dog sports/activities to choose from. Pick something (or a few somethings) you enjoy and go for it!
Thanks for the kind words Cheri, he's a great dog for sure. This was my first time using a camera to record, I realized after I uploaded the video to the computer for review that I was way to far away. More video to come with my own camera when purchased.
One of my nephews uses a GoPro for down hill mountain biking and skiing, what I have seen of what he posts, they are pretty impressive, he spends quite a lot of time in Canada as a ski tech and snow boarding instructor, and he swears by it.
