My husband's 'office casual' was generally a (department issued) polo shirt and 511 Tactical khakis - that's a Sheriff's Office though. So I'd go one step up from there.
Dress formally enough that you can impress and flexibly enough that you can chase a random perp down if one presents itself! ;D
Good luck!

I would go dressed like if you had to , you could walk out of the room and do the job you are interested in .
Maybe dress it up a bit with a jacket/sport coat , but you want look like you'd fit right in .
None of the RCMP members I know are hung up on formality . . . They look at the person and the job way before they judge your clothes .

For what it's worth, which is bugger all really, I think making an effort when attending ANY job interview, shows respect for the company and the job, I remember some oik coming into my office once, leaning on the door, hands in his track pants pockets, asking "Got any jobs mate?"
That created a good impression, NOT!
Clothes maketh the man!
Best of British luck to you Aric, hope all goes well

GREAT LINK to answer this question, Connie !!!
"Office Casual" has different definitions in Different Jobs...
General Rule in ANY CONTEXT: Better to be just a Smidge Over-Dressed rather than TOO UNDER-DRESSED -- Obviously, one should NOT show up in a rented Mountie costume from a Halloween shop, LOL, or wear a Formal business Suit ... But a well-pressed longsleeved "dress shirt" (not necessarily white) and well-creased "dress slacks" (not jeans, cargo pants, camo fatigues, etc.) along with Shined shoes should be acceptable, IMHO.

can't speak for other parts of the world but around here police recruitment has become very sophisticated.
back in the not so distant past police officers looked like they fell out of an assembly line.
they were all a certain height/weight (big men) mono cultural, most likely a protestant or a catholic conservative, white English language only speakers.
they actually were taken out of society completely for training and isolated in remote bush.
they were all young with zero life experience.
now days they are trained within a major city and are interact widely with the public, they are all shapes, sizes, colurs, gender, straight, gay, all religions and not religions, English as second language people, some have tattoos and have brushed up against the legal system, generally older recruits, generally better educated and have had lives prior to joining.
the selection is prolly harder now, they drill into your character deep.

Yup, agreed. I would probably add a jacket with the collar-shirt, although "casual" I think means "no tie needed."
But yes, these are the needed items, and "shined shoes" means that they are not sneakers.
