I am planning on getting the DVD too, the streaming version.
But I'm thinking that with regard to the car chasing, it's not going to be "soft". I'm thinking that I don't want to even call him, except after the shock. I want him to think the shock came from the car itself. I want him to make the "no chase" decision on his own.
We have electric fences. Even if the wire is off, no one touches them.
I'm hoping to establish some thought process like this for cars and trucks on the driveway.

I AGREE This falls under the category of "Life Lessons" NOT Obedience Training -- It is just exactly like a Hot-Wire fence ... The idea is for your dog to LEARN "on his own" that he does NOT Want ANYTHING to DO with the "Business End" of MOVING Vehicles in the DRIVEWAY or the Road (IMHO).
have used tramadol a lot working in a shelter, never saw any bad side effects but usually short term. My old dog was on it as well. I will say dogs hate the taste and will spit it out even when you think its in. Very hard to pill this one/hide it.
old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown

I have not seen mental effects from either one, in my fairly limited experience with both.
I have used both to the exclusion of other NSAIDs and non-NSAIDs for years (keeping in mine that this NSAID has a somewhat better record than others, but is still in the same category and requires the same bloodwork and monitoring that all NSAIDs do in all dogs), but my experience is still a limited number of dogs.
Still, these are the two I choose when an NSAID or non-NSAID pain-reliever is needed. (Tramadol, IME, has few if any side effects unless overdosed, when it can affect serotonin. This is a large topic, far more applicable to humans, and particularly those taking SSRIs with Tramadol.)
I use Tramadol myself, too.
