A long time ago, at our veterinary clinic, we lost a dog who was boarding. The dog slipped his collar- dogs at that time were walked on the streets of our small town for exercise.
One of the senior veterinarians set up a live trap baited with a cooked turkey. We anchored the turkey to the inside of the trap so that the dog couldn't make off with it. The trap was a big one, like the sort used to catch a raccoon, that we obtained from the Department of Natural Resouces.
The trap was baited for several nights before it was "set".
It took a week but we caught him.
A large (more scent) female dog in heat could also be used as a lure if one could be found.
Officer Popp's latest update:
"The weekend is almost here and the weather is going to be much warmer. I'll be out sunrise to sunset looking and trying. He's out there and 20,000 people are behind me to find him.."
"Just to keep everyone in the loop, we have had sightings of a dog that resembles Karson and we are currently working to verify that it was him. There have been several locations in the same proximity of each other and we are trying to establish his whereabouts. The last two days have been very busy and I have been working hard to narrow his location. Thank you..."
Here's the latest:
"I understand there seems to be some confusion as to the direction of the search for my buddy Karson. First, the search has NOT been called off by me or my police department. We all still want to locate and recover Karson. Secondly, I am still actively searching myself and with a team. We are taking measures to follow up on all sightings and bring him home. I personally follow up on every sighting. Lastly, so that it's clear, we want folks out looking for Karson. I personally have been effected by the outpouring of support and will never tell anyone to give up. If I give up, then we all give up. Never give up. Never, ever give up..."
They found him!! Check out the Facebook page for more details .I am sure that dog is glad to be home. He is incredible for surviving for so long on his own.
Echoing what Cheri said, followed this thread hoping for a happy outcome, and here it is! So very pleased for all concerned, most especially for the boy himself, what a tough and resilient dog, huge respect for never giving up, and keeping the faith, just brilliant
