THANKS for the added input, Duane and Betty, I really appreciate it
YES to all you both said:
Carry-over from an extremely ACTIVE and DOGGIE weekend...
Relatively NEW rescue, adopted as an ADULT -- Definitely NOT a show-bred Dobie (more along the temperament traits of a Junkyard Guard)...
"Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" is NOW in place as one of my Management policies with Adobe, since I've learned the chance of that behavior is im-bed-ded (pun intended) beneath the surface...
HAPPILY, we've had no further Snarky actions, and I aim to keep it that way between us !!!
It's unlikely this is the first time Adobe has snarked back at a person. Her prior owners may have gone ballistic.
Perhaps Adobe, the morning after the incident, was wondering how you were going to be. In the past, someone may have been pretty heavy handed post growl in an effort to establish control.

Of course we don't know how "iffy" her owner relations may have been before May 2014 -- But prior to this one unexpected incident, she had never shown any defensive Fear/Pain aggression or tendency to be Hand/Touch shy ... Adobe had an extensive "going over" by the Vet in my presence this past June, which included an unsedated sonogram of her spay incision to confirm a suture reaction, where she was quite calm while being held on her back in the cradle by me; and she's "good as gold" at the groomer twice a month for nail dremeling (I always watch through the glass wall).
Anyway, I definitely AGREE that Adobe acted like she was "waiting for the other shoe to drop" that next morning, looking as if she expected me to punish her faux pas -- Naturally, my main goal ever since then has been to Restore our Bond of TRUST
