I don't know any of the mentioned trainers, but as a veterinarian who practiced 30 yrs in the upper midwest, I can put my 2 cents in that SOMETHING needs to be done to change the way
these duck dogs are handled.
Whole lot of wasted pups who couldn't tolerate the electric collar running continuously until the dog drops the duck at the owners feet.
High energy dogs whacked out from confinement in a 6x6 kennel 300 days a year only out for duck season.
Dogs who freak out, pee themselves or attack the owner .

Any change is likely a good change, in my view.
I totally agree, Betty. I stopped field training because the trainers in my area only knew how to train with ecollars. I couldn't justify "training" that way. When ME told me he was going to do a gun dog DVD (basic yard drills) I was really looking forward to it. Now with so many changes with the business I knew it would be a back burner project, but I didn't think he would completely scrap it.
I would support a LB DVD, but not an SMS franchisee who continues to promote videos of dogs being improperly trained with an e-collar.
The trainer Mara suggested has changed his ground work into positive training. He still uses the collar but later in the program when the dog has learned the drills and needs distance. It takes much longer to get a finished dog but at least it's fair training.
