Same happened to me with my shepherd pup, as a Shitzu attacked us. At the time i was so stupid to think it would upset the owner(neighbor), if i would touch his little dog.
Now I know better, with all the consequences i see happening to my dog.
Too late for my shepherd and your dog. I have to agree with Candi on this.
If i ever have a new pup, and this happens to me again, i will kick the sh@t out of the attacker before it reaches my dog. Doesn't matter what size or breed.
If somebody asks why i do this, i will have to say, that i felt, that it was heading towards me, and i thought it would attack me.
Too bad, if that would hurt the feelings of the owner.

All it takes is one attack on a young dog or puppy for it to become dog aggressive.
It becomes a matter of bite before I'm bitten.

Thanks for your comments guys. You re right.
Fortunately I do not see any changes in his behaviour towards other dogs.I am lucky that he is a tough boy. Having said that, I was also lucky that the other dog was smaller than Chokai.
Also I was impressed to see how fast Chokai calmed down after the incident although he was always keeping an eye open on the other dog.
PS: Chokai will be turning on 23 months old in a few weeks. Below is a pic taken at 19 months old.

Such a GORGEOUS Akita-Boy !!! With any LUCK your Chokai will have Dismissed that Westie as being "beneath his DIGNITY to even consider" -- Sometimes with a Much SMALLER Attacker, an Akita's attitude can be "What was that, a mosquito? Well then, tut-tut!" Keep your fingers crossed, but stay vigilant, because with any attacker more his size, he would most likely NOT be so forebearing...

What the hell is wrong with people...
We got attacked by another loose and aggressive dog 2 days ago while my wife and I were walking our leashed dog.
My GoPro was 'on' and I recorded the whole attack.
I am very proud of my wife who stepped in front of my dog and I trying to stop the attacking dog although she did not manage to stop the attacking dog. Meanwhile I was holding back my dog but was unable to prevent the attacking dog to bite my dog. Shortly after that, Chokai grabbed this little shit and stick him on the ground. I pushed back Chokai to make it stop. The attacking dog got free and kept repeatedly attacking Chokai while I was trying to put some distance from this attacking dog. At one moment, I was able to shove away the attacking dog. Then the owner grabbed his dog, insulted me, refuse to give his ID and fled the scene.
Chokai got injured on his head and his front left paw. This is my fault because I was holding him back...
We call the police. They came and does not care. We gave them the video. I asked what is going to happen next, I want this guy to have at least a fine. I want the by-law A-700 enforced in this case. They said NO. They do not want to do anything but a few years ago one of my neighbours got issue a fine because his dog was off leash (the law was enforced in this case)... what is wrong with them....
I complained to the animal services. I do not know what they are going to do. They still did not give us any news from the previous attack.

Forgot to add in my previous post that we were able to record the plate number of the guy. The police talk to him.The guy agreed with everything because we told him that we recorded the incident before he fled the scene. Nevertheless the police refuse to give him a ticket.

If a STUN BATON is street-legal where you live in Canada, then BUY ONE and learn how to use it !!! If not, then get a heavy-duty Walking Stick or carry a BASEBALL BAT on your walks ... I can 90% GUARANTEE now that Chokai got INJURED by an Attacking Dog, he will NOT continue to "play nice" in future
Was that a BIG dog or another stupid little one ??? This time Chokai only PINNED him down, but next time he could easily KILL a dog in no time flat, and then you will receive a Put-to-Sleep order most likely -- YOU must prevent that from befalling YOUR dog !!! If this means NO MORE WALKING HIM in your neighborhood of Loose Aggressive Dogs Everywhere, then so be it, just exercise Chokai in your backyard

From what I know, people living in Canada are not allowed to carry such things unfortunately. My best bet is my right foot.
The attacking dog was a puggle, a mix between beagle and pug. He is probably weighting 30 pounds. The owner of the attacking dog was also handling another agressive but leashed puggle. When he came at the end trying to get his attacking dog, the dog that he was handling was pushing on his leash trying to attack my dog too. My wife managed to grab his leash and hold him back while I was holding Chokai.

People everywhere think that but a lot of places have less restrictive laws than you'd think. It might be worth some time to look it up. Just at a quick glance I found a requirement for them to be longer than 480mm. I know a few trainers who specialize in aggression who keep them close at hand as an emergency measure with the more seriously dog aggressive dogs. I believe them when they say they work.
