Christina;
There really aren't a lot of different dialects across the United States, but practically every one of them is represented in New Orleans. We are a major port city dating back to the settling of the New World, and we are a mixing pot of cultures. The most metropolitan of New Orleanians are even said to sound like they have a Brooklyn accent (because of the Italian influence).
The Cajun dialect that you hear Justin Wilson has its foundation in French. The Cajuns descended from French immigrants who were driven out of Nova Scotia and came to settle in the Acadiana region of south Louisiana. Later, when the Spanish ruled the area, Spanish was introduced into the culture, and the same thing happened when slavery came from the Caribbean. Creole culture is a mixture of French, Spanish, African, Caribbean, and Western European culture.
***Btw, Justin Wilson is not a natural Cajun. He is from nearby southern Mississippi. His accent is affected.
As far as Cajun Night Before Christmas, we identify with swamp life and our culture does not cringe at the thought of mud and moss and critters. We think it is rather funny to picture alligators pulling a sled in a place where Rudolph fears to tread! The rest of the tale highlights the difference between how humble, simple people might live and celebrate in contrast to people in more genteel surroundings.

The term "Creole" was taken By New Orleans at the turn of the last century and made it into a big tourist draw.
In Missouri the Creole French were those born here from French trappers, traders, etc.
In Missouri a person born in France and settled here around Kaskaskia Ill and St. Genevieve Mo. (Louisiana Purchase)
Because the vast majorities were Trappers. traders they were men.
These men would often marry/get together with Slaves or indian (Savages) women. These new born to this land were Creole French.
Many in my family going back to my Grandmother on my mom 's side can be traced to the 160th Century in France.
These Creole French here where later referred to as Pawpaw French which was a negative term for the people.
It referred to the fact that these people were so poor that they lived off of Pawpas ( a native fruit) in the summer and Possum in the winter.
Back in the 50s I recall my great Uncle Edgar that lived in Tiff Mo, a very poor area. He made The Beverly Hillbillies look like Royalty.
He had no electricity, no indoor plumbing and his transportation was a really old horse and wagon.
Info on the Pawpaw French can be found on the net.
Then theirs my Dad's side of the family.
Both dad's parents were born in Ireland and came over with their parents and sibs.
Great Grandpa Scott was the steriotypical Irish drunken fighter and wife beater. Buried here in Potters field.
I have a few turn of the century copies of St. Louis Post Dispatch articles that make references to them.
No royalty there either.

That's for me real royalty! People with background of such a lot of different roots, cultures, languages, adventures. Even an irish drunken Grandpa and wife beater (!!! literally?, well this is not very royal, although some early royals also were wife beaters. I'd knock every down without mercy).
I know more or less French, but Pawpaw French that's really new, will have to look it up. The history of Uncle Edgard also is amazing!
What an immense "mess" of a past you have! Perhaps because of this the evolution made such wonderful selections.
Human history - even if not too far back - is a breathtaking miracle. I think, you've had the luck to be put in to one of the favorite places. True?

Duane, what a country! such a lot of new settlers from different countries must have created a big difference.
Well, your Cajun night sounds really being great fun. But I'm more or less grown up now. Though if I were a little child I'd certainly crawl to the next hiding place. Doesn't it frighten your children?
Interesting how a mixture of such different culters create a new culture.
I would have thought that so many different influences would have created more dialects. For me it always sounds like this. Perhaps it's not really an other dialect but more different pronunciations, intonations, singsongs. For me an American from the South is much more difficult to understand than one from the North.
Well we've com off the topic a bit. Or perhaps not? I guess that some of the people who immigrated to US took there pets with them too. So how has this influenced the different regions? Have dogs from the North other woofs than dogs from the South etc. Is it more difficult to understand the language from a dog of another region? And the behavior?
Have some People or the natural selection created crittirs comparable with a Justin Wilson or others with a Donald Trump or .. or .. or?

True!
I'm one of 7, dad was one of 16, grandpa was one of 9 and great grandpa was one of 8.
My wife, after reading some of my family history mentioned that it's a miracle that my brothers and I turned out so good. Some just took a little longer.

Holy smokes! Those producers had a lot do. I don't only mean with making so many children but especially with bringing them up.
I don't agree with your wife. It's not a miracle that you all turned out so good. It's BECAUSE you are so many that you turned out so good. Perfect socialization.
