All good ideas, guys! (Well, maybe all but Bob eating up the warm bacon. )
Once I got the "procedures" protocol all worked out and smooth, I was pretty impressed by how OTHER dogs in the house (who were not having a procedure) acted. They stayed on their places and stared at the bacon. Of course, the patient got his reward instantly after, but then any other dog(s) present got a little bit too. Then more for the patient.

Allow Bob his warm bacon, Connie! He also deserves a reward from time to time. Although bacon is not at all healthy, neither for humans nor for dogs. Well, as little treat why not.

Hey guys, thanks again for the suggestions. The combination of better treats (she had never had cheese before and really zoned in on it) and putting it in the middle of a training session on things she was already confident in made it much better. She was still not happy but she didn't avoid me all afternoon like the last time...
