We still need a structure that we can implement. I am willing to do anything to make this work. We plan on going south next summer,so I have til June to get us both A one.
He is right. When he does well, I want to coddle. But until he stops the nonsense, we are not to coddle period. That's the hardest part. Especially with his face.
But I will on the grooming table, since he is perfect on there now. That's where he will get his attention for now.

Unfortunately, Harry is off training for the next two weeks, going on antibiotics, and pain meds that the vet is sending up.
He tore a nail off in the yard galloping, nail is completely gone on his front paw. And to boot he woke up this morning with a large squishy lump on the back of his head, which broke open, and drained pus. This was not there yesterday.
Vet says perhaps it was a wasp sting, or a foxtail. Meds until finished, pain meds so I can keep him clean without the fight, and the soap to wash the toe every time he goes out and comes in.
Until his meds get here, I had Jim hold him down while I shaved the back of the head. Poor guy was hurting, but we got it done, and cleaned everything with peroxide. This morning I gave it a warm salt rinse, so when I shaved, it had already been draining for half the day, so now it's just a really red patch.
The toe is a pain, as it's been pouring all day outside, so the sock I put on him is soaked in seconds while he goes potty.
If the back of the head doesn't clear up with meds, I have to send him down to have it checked out.
I am betting it was a wasp, we were having them land on us throughout the whole walk yesterday, and they are banging on windows etc. I am really despising summer.
So bed rest for him, and plenty of work for me!

Happy to report, the swelling has gone down, with chlorahexidine washes on both his foot and the hole, which ended up being btwn the ears, it's seems the draining has stopped. Still waiting for the meds to arrive.
He is taking it like a champ, I don't even have to muzzle him when I am scrubbing.
Where the sting is located, it looks like the wasp got caught under the over the head muzzle strap. The vet said it's not unheard of for an animal to have reactions to bug bites and stings, and that I can treat all stings with the antiseptic soap right away to minimize infection. I will be adding a small bottle to my hiking pack!
His toe is fine, no limping, and he is keeping it clean, with a few salt washes after coming in to keep it dirt free.
Thank God it wasn't a fox tail!

I'm sorry to hear about Harry's injuries, and I'm glad to hear per your latest post that his recovery is going well so far.
Remember, though, that him having these injuries is no reason to discontinue training in the broadest sense of the word. I understand that you can't get him out for his usual daily exercise or any training sessions that require him to be moving about on that foot. But of course, you can still continue with your NILIF, household manners, rules and boundaries, and working on your structure and routine. Having an injury is no reason to give him a free pass or allow any backsliding on those types of daily interactions.

Oh yes! No free pass for him!
I actually do longer duration on holding the position, just to work him a bit more.
Thankfully the Chlorhexidine came in today, meds didn't make it yet.

Oh, boy, that's tough when you have to wait a few days after an injury happens to get antibiotics and pain meds!

I was annoyed they wouldn't courier on my visa to the airport cargo, I coulda had them yesterday if they had, we have to wait til tues after 9 now. I am cleaning it every few hours, and wiping what ever leaks out with the antiseptic soap. My brother in law sent me up my 1 gallon jug I bought from amazon.
It's 2% so I diluted and used the stream on a spray bottle to clear the whole area. He is going to get matts, but I will deal with those after he gets his pain meds.
One heck of a fall start. He def will not be shaved next summer. All these issues arose with bites after his haircut. Now with a grooming arm, life is way easier. Will not shave him again!
Next year we head south in the summer. I am dreading tick season.
