So if the automatic platz is not a good idea for a PSD, why is it a good idea for SchH? Why make it even less real than it is?"

HOME RUN, BABY$$$
I wish more sport people thought about this and REALLY TRAINED WITH THAT IN MIND. The world would be a better place. . .
Gooffy crap that is "flashy" sucks. Real obedience, intensity, control, spirit, drive, partnership, and aggression is flashy- work on that. -JMNSHO-
Here is a little story. Bad guy sneaks into house to do a very dastardly deed. When all of a sudden the loyal family protector (a gsd, of course) charges him barking like one of the hounds of hell. Bad guy immediatly shoots both hands straight up above his head and the dog does an impressive autoplaz. Too bad the bad guy was reaching for his impressive ninja-samurai sword and then deftly cuts the hellhound if half, who is a nice target down at the feet of our villian. The dog did a flashy autoplatz instead of biting the bad guy's D!@* off. A sorry state of affairs. . .
So, not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I don't think it would be a good idea to teach an autoplatz. Sorry Lonny. . . I just had to chime in. Good opportunity for a VanCamp story. . .
In Schutzhund you would lose points if your dog platzed before the command.. alot of dogs do anticipate that position..because they get a bite out of it.. when we train the escape bite most of the bites come out of a sit.. just so the dog doesn't anticipate the platz command.
