Unless you intend to train for profit I would suggest the videos from Ed. I have several of his tapes and the results are immediate if the techniques are followed. I wish these tapes had been around when I first started 17 years ago. I was started on the Koehler method, a big mistake. If you are totally new to training purchase the basic tapes and a few of the books listed on Ed's site and you'll be on your way.
He who has never tasted soap has never bathed a dog
Kelly - I think you need to be careful of recommending Baden K9 (Dogman) to anyone - this place is out in left field. He had an article on his web site a year or so ago in which he did not believe that anyone should use prey drive to train dogs - what part of the dark ages is he living in?
I would never recommend anyone consider Baden K9 to learn dog training from.
I suggest you spend some time reading what Baden K9 has written. I don't need to see his dogs. If he beleive what he has written - that you do not need to train with prey - then he is a goof.
DO NOT try and talk to me about the pros and cons of using prey drive. Anyone who says that prey drive is not a very very important element of protecteion dog training is a god damn idiot!!! READ MY LIPS - A GOD DAMN IDIOT!!
I will not debate one person on the value of prey drive in bite work - if someone is SOOOO stupid as to try and tell people that prey drive is not needed in training protection work they need to go post to some other list and spout their diatribe because I don't have time for that kind of bull here and I will not have crap like that on my web site.

Are there any of the united states k-9 academies still around? The one that Jack Healy started. They were in existance a couple years ago, and moved to California. Does any one have any personal experience with them?
There is 1 United States K9 Academy (it's in Florida)still in existience but the others folded up. There is a long line of complaints against the people who took over after Jack Healy died.
As for Baden, I'd be curious to know if the basis of your opinion is drawn from one single article or if you've actually seen the man's work & have found fault, & if so what the fault is????
Has anyone ever seen a Baden dog work or owned a Baden dog? If the training methods sound like they're 'in left field', has anyone that says they have an open mind to all training methods ever investigated these methods? Or the dogs? Or does an open mind mean being open to just whats in your comfort zone or sphere of knowledge?
Catherine - maybe its time you go to another web board. It is obvious that you need training and what you look for is a stupid arguement. It's getting real old.

Hi all,
I've been waiting for this question. Yes, I have seen and worked one---a small Malinois bitch. The dog was EXTREMELY defensive and would come off the bite if you struck her with PVC pipe insulation and then bite elsewhere. I don't like what I saw at all. She was too aggressive to be around anyone but the family who had her. In my opinion, she could have been run off fairly easily with a bit of pressure. Interestingly, she had excellent environmental nerves, which leads me to believe that her growly bite and extreme defensiveness was attributable to the shit training she received at Baden.
