What about the germans who had pouches on the front of thier overalls with rabbits in them for obedience? I haven't seen it but a guy I trained with went to germany to train and saw this. Just curious

Maybe this is where Bernhard came up with the term "suicide rabbit" LOL
The water is a BAD idea Candace. There is no drive satisfaction, no grip, nada. Unless you have seen the videos and have a knowledge of what they are about, stick to other threads or just read and learn.
I see what everyone is saying, it's just an idea that I had after watching the video and realizing my dog has way better food drive than prey drive.
I wonder if teasing him with a steak would motivate him?
It would motivate me too! It's okay to use whatever works best for the dog. If you think it's food then use food. I mix it up with mine and use both food and toys. Both of my dogs have very high food drive & play drive.
Take a Kong, stuff it with a little peanut butter, and then use it to train. This might imprint your pup that toy = food, bouncing, chasing after toy = fun food. This might get your dogs drive up for that specific toy, and you don't have to worry about bloat. Kong also makes a ball shaped toy that can be stuffed with food. Make sure it is not so small that it can choke him!
But Kongs are terrible for grip training. They are too irregular for a solid grip, and the round ones are too hard for drive training the way Berhnard does it. So if you are not concerned about grip, maybe that would get your dog to have a little more toy focus.

Candace, this section of the board deals directly with the training concepts Bernhard Flinks and Ed Frawley have laid out on a specific video. Water IS NOT an effective prey item to use for this method of training a dog.
