I think that if we are to breed dogs it should be to produce strong working dogs with large heads, sound nerves, high drives, even temperment
What the heck does breeding for big heads have to do with anything? That's like all the pit bull breeders breeding dogs that look like deformed English Bulldogs.

When I was looking at ED's site he talk about his stud dog having a large head."Aiko is a very substantial solid black male. This is an impressive and powerful dog with a large head. He has super temperament and excellent nerves. He is multiple times SchH 3 and a really excellent example of GSD character. This is a powerful dog that is known to take helpers to the ground in the escape and the courage tests."
I know that a large head does not house a biger brain, but a biger head would give you a bigger bite.

If i understand evrything said here, aPSD does not need to be AKC registered to be a good dog to work the streets. I have an opportunity to breed with a friends PSD who is from the Czech republic. He(the handler) has no papers for him and says the same thing."why would i need papers for a dog that works and is not a show dog?". I agree with him . I think that if we are to breed dogs it should be to produce strong working dogs with sound nerves, high drives, even temperament, large heads, and no way to register the litter with the AKC or other clubs, due to my friend not having ANY paper for his psd. I want to become a top breeder of GSD for Street patrol,pp, maybe even schd. I know that there ars dogs out there that are PSD and should not be. I WANT to help change that one dog/handler at a time. In the coming years i hope to have my own bloodline and to have a reputation for being "one of the top ten producers of police service dogs". If i breed with my friends dog, I hope that bloodline speaks for themselves and I am able to improve the quilty of dogs that are working. My friends also told me that the police he trains with do not look for titles, numbers, clubs, or papers. One dog that i know of came from a kennel here in upstate NY. Sold to them with the promise that "he will make a great dog for the streets",and he says that the dogs is great for narcotics, but has week nerves,(an over site) and a poor bite.(training? or genes?) I hope to have at least one dog in this police dog academics so other police personal will have an opportunity to see what kind of dog that i will produce.

If there are no papers, how can you even track the bloodline? You can't. I do not believe you should be breeding at all.

While I agree it is difficult to track a bloodline without a registration, there are some very good dogs out there that are not registered. As a trainer for a police department, I couln't care less about a dogs "pedigree". I've always said, I don't get a dog because of where he came from, I get them for what they can do for me. If a breeder had a solid reputation for producing good stock, police trainers would hear about it, and line up to buy them. There are literally hundreds of imports coming in all the time that the paper work is at best, questionable, if they have any. Sure are lots of them being sold, because they meet the need of the consumer.

There are a lot of dogs produced within the dutch KNPV program that have zip for papers. I buy 'em all the time. 'cause I haven't had to throw a bad guy or a load of dope back because the dog didn't have papers. In fact a lot of "working bred" dogs with fine pedigrees to go with them aren't worth the paper the pedigree is printed on.

I have seen some of the best bred dogs on paper not be worth a hill of beans in the streets. PSD need to work and do a trained job. That is it. Who cares if they have papers or not. Most PDs and SOs don't give a rip as long as they work.
