Are working dobermans usually left uncropped/docked? Or is it a matter of preference? Anyone know a good site for working dobermans? I would like to learn more about the breed. Thanks.

Dogs that our born after 1997 can not breed in in Denmark with cropped ears and tails, and part of the deal for getting the breeder wanted to keep her as a back up dog for breeding.
The cropping ban is in 11 countries and applies to both schutzhund dogs, and show dogs. If the dog is cropped it can only be a pet.
If you want to learn about dobermanns go to:

sort of ironic that the original reason the dobe was croped was so when the dog was on top of someone after attack they could not grap his hanging ears and roll the dog off.
also tail is a dogs #1 liability.
Go figure.......

I don't know I guess its personal preference more than anything else. But I do think that a docked tail and cropped ears have their advantages. My friend has a dalmatian that always injures his tail when he wags it. Its always bleeding, and the skin breaks on it. Plus the dog always knocks thing off the coffee table. With a docked tail you have no problems like that. I also think that dogs with cropped ears can hear better and they are not as prone to infections because more air can get to it. I might be wrong but that's just what I think.
One thing that I don't get is that in Germany its still legal to dock the tails of hunting breeds. It inhumaneto dock the tails of dobes, boxers giants etc... but its ok to do it to hunting breeds?

In Germany lots of politicians have hunting breeds, so they said some crap about how its helps the hunting dog do its job. The cropped ears have no function except to make the dog look alert/scarey.
In Germany there is little love for Dobermanns so I don't really think there is any chance of this law changing.
I prefer the cropped look to, but since there is only one person in the world with Weyermuhle bitches, and gets help/advice from Norbert Schmitz (Weyermuhle kennel breeder), it was a no brainer.

Ok, there cute pics man. That dog was still a Rott, and I'm not backing down on it. lol
As far as dogs of ANY breed, I wouldn't mind cutting their tails, clipping their ears, tattooing their ear, or giving them the zap with the E-collar. Dogs work for me, they're not humans. Do I look at them as my slave, yes. Do they envy the title, yes. In my opinion. Dogs work for us, period. All one can do is be good to them, which I try to do. The other stuff though is our own preference and our own decision. I think it's cruel for many people to have kids because of how idiotic they are but where's the law on that?
If someone wants to cut the tail off ANY breed or clip the ears off ANY breed they want, fine by me. Whether it serves a purpose is irrelevant to me. If that makes me Jack Kevorkian then so be it. I happen to like the guy.

Hello Robert,
You have a wonderful Dobermann right there. What's her pedigree?
I liked the pictures very much. She looks like a Weyermuehle. You'll have a very strong and wonderful bitch in a couple of years.
Is she working already? If not, she has to.
My bitch started at 9 weeks. Now she's the most spectacular dog in our club. Of course she was already like that when she started, but if you don't work her at a young age she might lose it, or at least lose drive.
Get ready to have a demon at home. My bitch comes from Ningicosan v. Weyermuehle. These are not regular Dobermanns. They have a lot of drive, a lot of courage, they are hard and they never stop until they get what they want. That's why they are good working dogs.
Congratulations,
Pedro.

She looks like a Snoopy daughter. Same ears and head.Either that or Qastra. Bronco Doberwache is the father. He is a good dog, got some video of him working at about 10 weeks of age. Serious little guy.
In Germany they banned ear cropping but they would take their dogs to Belgium and Holland and get them done their. So when they banned tail docking they also put into law that it was illegal to import a docked/cropped dog. This way they could stop the border hopping. There was talk about taking it to the EU court as it went against the free trade agreements. In other words it should be illegal for Germany to stop the selling of a dobe born and docked in France to Germany. But Germans seem to accept what ever their Gov says and as such it hasn't to my knowledge been challanged. At the last World Dog Show in Holland docked and Cropped dogs couldn't be entered. Even if it was legal in the country the dogs were representing.
