I agree with you on the fact that people who find it entertaining are sick. Most of the time at least in the old days when it wasn't done so much for entertainment neither dog died. I have read alot of stuff where once the dog proved it was game they stopped the fight and the dog never fought again. They bred it and that was it. The fact is Pit Bulls love to fight bottom line. I don't enjoy it or condone it but I do accept it. And I thank the old time breeders for giving me the game bred pit bull I have today. Nowadays yes I am sure it is cruel the way they do it and it is solely for the money but I will guarantee you 50 years ago it wasn't just for the money.
Well I usually dont get into these kind of arguments but I will make an exception. I was raised fighting dogs. My grandfather did it and so did his grandfather. Dog fighting did not become illegal until 1987 in Louisiana. I can assure you that there was no other illegal things going on there. Pure sport and entertainment. I still have Pitts and always will but I no longer fight them because it is ILLEGAL!! bottomline. As for cockfighting it is still legal in Louisiana and I still enjoy it. I saw this show with SPCA on animal planet in which the officers picked up some gamecocks to stop cockfighting and at the end said the birds could not be put together they like to fight and they would put them to sleep instead. They would like to do the same with pitts. I ask where is the Humaneness in this? Bottom Line different strokes for different folks!!! This is a free country(well sort of) and if you dont like it you dont have to watch. Just like Porn or Vulgarity on T.V. turn the channel if you dont like it.
Here Here stonerpitbull. We did this me and grandpa for 17 yrs and lost 2 dogs the whole time and had in excess of 100 dogs during that time. You are right once proven they were used to improve the bloodline. I would say we were pioneers in the breed as it is known today crossing Boureaux and Carver bloodlines.

How useful is a dog that likes to fight other dogs?? Not very. Especially in this day and age.
I too agree with breeding for utility and sticking with the original work the dog was bred to do but fighting dogs/feeding Christians to lions/gladiatiors/etc..... was for SPORT.

Yes stonerspitbull that is what they where breed for in America and it is what they like to do. Like I said I havent been in the sport since 1987 when it was outlawed. Some may call it inhumane and that is fine it is their opinion and they have a right to their opinion. All I have to say is this is a slippery slope very close to breed specific legislation and gun legislation. It may be a sport you like that may get outlawed next for breeding vicious dogs! There are extremes to every thing and idiots in every sport that ruin it for the rest. Just like idiots who let their dogs run loose knowing they are vicious. By the way I also like boxing and Ultimate fighting championships and martial arts why dont we outlaw that! Why cant dog fights be stopped in a Humane way just like boxing? They used to be. the dogs were a big investment and when you saw they didnt have a chance but showed courage you threw in the towel!!

Thank you, it's a shame that anyone could subject their dog to this type of inhumane activity. I too live in Louisiana and have never seen a dog fight or been near one. I hope I never get to see one. We hear about but stay clear!!!

I like that, and as a matter of fact, that's my mentality as well.
If I need some "testosterone gratification", rather than watch two dogs try to hurt each other, I'll go catch a few on the sleeve. That way, I burn off my energy, and the dogs get some good training time.
