With all the pit attacks happening these days, I can certainly see where Joe is coming from. Now that I don't agree with. You can get great rescue dogs, and the Pit is not the only dog in the stats for bites etc. I was referring to when you buy a pup, but yes, I'm sure you can find great rescue dogs too.
I meant no offence by calling Joe an idiot. Rather, I was simply making a factual statement.
For the record, I haven't seen the parents. Although I bought her, my PB was minutes away from being drowned in a water tank. I was tipped off by a friend and she cost me $50. They wouldn't have just given her away to me since I'm a foreigner and it would involve loss of face for their entire family. I would like to apologise for being irresponsible by saving her life.
I live in Indonesia, which is a Muslim country. This means that dogs are both hated AND feared by most of the population. People here are too ignorant/poor to have their bitches spaded, which unfortunately means most puppies are put down, one way or the other. Another favourite method involves a hole in the ground and a shovel, though I don't think I need to go into details there.
As some of you know, we also have a Rottweiler. He is almost 2 years old now, and very well trained. I've done hundreds of hours of research on this site and many others, since there are no dog trainers worth mentioning over here and I've had no choice but to learn everything myself from scratch. I guess that makes me irresponsible too.
The land on which we live is a little over 4 hectares. Apart from being free all day to run around, my Rottie gets an hour's walk in the morning before it gets too hot and the same at night time before bed.
As for my qualifications, anyone who's ever put in the work to get to this level will tell you that intelligence is not the key factor. Consistency and sound study methods are much more valuable, as are dedication and a love of learning in itself.
I wouldn't normally have wasted my time writing this, since Joe is entitled to think what he wants as he drives his tractor back and forth.
Nevertheless, I hope this makes my situation a little clearer to Joe and anyone else stupid enough to judge me without knowing the full story, and I trust we can make some forward progress from now on, instead of bickering like little kids.
