Well....one pitbull that made it as a low level service dog every 10 or 15 years will not be much of an arguement against five to ten deaths *every* year involving pitbulls, along with thousands of yearly injuries.
Statistics are not too friendly in regards to pitbulls, that's just a fact, no matter how the pro-pitbull folks spin it.
I agree, Will. I also noticed that she did something that just aggravates the heck out of me. She did the old "Stories you will never see because the dogs involved were not pitbulls" routine and THEN posted newspaper stories to prove it. Hel-LO, you will never seem them, but they are published in newspapers???
Damn Chris tell us how you really feel! I actually bought and read the book probably ten years ago and was amazed at how naive and ignorant a humane officer who raises, trains and breeds supposedly "game bred" pit bulls and fighting cocks could be.
And you are spot on about colby dogs, they haven't been any good since about the twenties. They continued very tight line breeding while others were branching out and creating dogs with slightly longer limbs, hugely increased stamina and agility as well as a more rounded temperment including intelligence. It's a shame that the wrong people get a hold of such a capable dog and it leads to tragedy, but that is life. You don't see gangsters throwing rocks at each other, they use the most efficient tool available to them, a gun. The same goes for the dogs of like minded individuals, there is no better dog at gripping than a pit. It's unfortunate that law abiding responsible owners will suffer from this, but without regulations and better restrictions on breeding this will continue until the breed is banned in the US like it is in some EU countries and Canada. If we had a breed warden system like they do in Germany a lot of this could be avoided. I'm all for as small a government as possible but with changing times some regulations are necessary and I find this much more palatable than breed bans. Looks like I tripped over a tangent, sorry about the rant.
Oh course I should have just closed this thread when someone felt the need to comment on an almost three year old thread < roll eyes >.
And it says something about the original poster's insecurities regarding his breed that he'd even have to make the original comment that he did.
Just let it go, guys. A few of the breed can work, but the same can be said of nearly any breed - they're nothing special, get over yourselves, ok?
