I have a Mal puppy,7 month old now, I really thought he would be a little sh#t storm.
The first two weeks were pretty bad, because he knew nothing, I mean nothing. So after a about another week of 24/7, time with the dog (he comes to work)
things got really good. He sleeps most of the day with my Kelpie and chills out untill the work day is done.
As long as you get them out, and teach them, Mal's don't have to be crazy. They are high energy, but give them a job to do, and it tires them out, then they have a good sleep and by the time you know it, it's ready to work them again.
