There is a lot more training involved in doing conformation than you would think. It takes a lot more than what it looks like when it is done properly. That is why it looks so effortless.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
There is no way for me to put into words the emotions that this article gives me. The closest phrase is- Seething Bloody Hatred.
This one quote from the Article sums up the whole thing for me.
"This is about the continuation of our version of the original German Shepherd as envisioned by Capt. Max Von Stephanitz, which I submit is much closer to what he wanted than the German version of the dog today."
Can any of you believe that???? Poor, poor Max. . . If you can roll over in the grave, El Capitan is surely turning some serious RPMs. Must make my RX-7 seem like a kiddy's toy.
Richard, not to show any disrespect or anything, but I've taken handling classes with my GSD for fun and the majority of the training needed is for the handler. Just about any Labbie-like GSD with basic house manners can be taught to trot the ring. I've never handled a dog in any pointed shows, FWIW.
"Dog breeding must always be done by a dog lover, it can not be a profession." -Max v Stephanitz
ok, I went and took a look at the site. I've seen that article before, though she has extended it on somewhat since the last time I read it. After reading the garbage, and seeing the "Bitch in Question" (who I seriously doubt won, and would only be convinced by a picture showing her in "the circle"), I looked at her males. CH Andretti (that's a Champion?), I wondered how these dogs are winning any shows as they walk on their hocks, and the illustrated standard that I have shows perfect rear angulation (that's what it says) and the hocks are nowhere near parallel with the ground. And as for her "noble & elegent male", he looks like a bitch. Actually, I've seen working line bitches that look more masculine than that dog....not to mention, our bitch is more substantial and impressive to look at than him.
If that's what Max v Stephanitz was after, why isn't every GSD an ass-dragger? (insert your own sarcastic tone in that question)
