Joy,
all i was getting at, was that as a trainer i have head to deal with some pretty down right viscious dogs that were very confident about it due to years of people lettign them ahve their way. So to be honest with you, i have seen dogs, first hand that will fight with anyone willing ot test them. I'm not saying i like this, or that i think its good, i actually dont agree with it at all and see it as a serious problem. But i think those dogs are out there. on the other hand i have seen a lot of dogs just make a lot fo noise like you were saying..

I don't know if you are going to get a good answer to your question.
You are going to have to find dogs with the traits that you like, who are also from lines of like producing dogs.
To do that you will have to learn about specific dogs and talk to people that have owned them, bred them, or are currently breeding to their lines.
Then you are going to have to filter through the BS and come to a realistic conclusion and then test it out.
And to whoever that jerk was that said change breeds. . .you suck!

I also have to agree with all of you. As for the chessy, I,ve got a Lab bitch. If you put her in a truck the house or her pen she will eat the fence or the window out of the truck.Very agressive. But she did that to a trainer I met and he just opened the door and sat down. She moved away and sulked. The point is.There are maybe 1 in a thousand that will attack a human unless tought to do so. Read Eds artical on what he would do if attacked. Its on this site.

I had a Golden retriever bitch that growled and barked at strangers, I think she would have bitten if provoked. She is not a typical Golden bitch. I was going to breed her, but with her temperment, I had to have her spayed as this is not desirable in Goldens. I understand that you want this temperment in your dogs, but finding the lines you want will take some work, if you want a dog that breeds consistant traits.

Howard - I have a 2 year old male GSD, biggest sucky 90 lb lapdog. Loves guests and strangers, in your face dog. In the summer when a stranger hopped my fence - this male did a very impressive bark and hold and had the stranger pinned to my fence. I have no doubt he would have nailed him, badly, if I had not called him off. No protection training that I know of, he arrived in Dec.2001 at approx 1 year of age. I was not in the backyard, was standing in the sliding doorway while my other male was out for a tinkle when this boy saw the legs sticking out of my shrubs - he reacted before I did, and the whole time my other male was having a leisurely whizz. It can happen with no training, some dogs are just like this.

I really do appreciate everyone's opinions and comments, but can anyone give me insight on specific dogs or lines that produce good, strong, hard, civil dogs.

I'm looking for a tough dog for sport/personal protection. Can anyone recommend a good working GSD kennel? I'm getting so turned around trying to find one. I want to import. Any thoughts on Tiekerhook?? Thanks!
