Untill we get controls like the germans (which will never happen)I believe every dog from working lines must be not only judged on there siblings and pedagree but also on there own merits.
There have been numerous breeders here in the USA that have produced both Sport Line and PSD Line dogs.
I have an older male GSD that I think is as good as any PSD or SchH dog. The BIG DIFFEREANCE is in the TRAINING he went through compared to the PSD's and SchH dogs. ( my big MISTAKE) I'VE LEARNED THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS THAT PRODUCE WELL!!!
I also admit that he would be a much better dog today if I would have had him trained in either of the DISCIPLINES.

Also Scott being a IPO champion 34 times tells you something about the European dogs. Yes, Scott is a 3/4 brother to Orry, but I guess you missed that I tested to see if Scott was civil. Scott would bite you for real, the amount he would fight, I couldn't tell you, I never did get a chance to work him on a sleeve (even on my second trip up there).
And Scott wasn't an IPO champion, he was trialed at IPO3 34times. Best placing I have on record is 11th at the 99 Weltmeisterschaft.
I have a Verwin son, and he is hard as nails. So is his littermate, Sarec. I don't think anyone would want harder dogs.
Humankind is drawn to dogs because they are so like ourselves- bumbling, affectionate, confused, eaily disappointed, eager to be amused, grateful for kindness and the least attention Pam Brown

And I would think that very few people would be able to handle Sarec. Have seen that dog numerous times in varying level trials, up to the WUSV last year. I like that dog; serious and intense.
