Well VC, clickers do work... and not just on dogs!!!
Seriously though...I have recently used a clicker to retrain/restart an older dog that had poor foundation....I used it for one specific thing and the main reason I used it was because I had my mouth stuffed with food to spit to him when he gave me the right response... I COULDN'T have said "good dog" or anything else if my life depended on it! lol I looked like I just had my wisdom teeth cut out.
He was always looking to hands or pockets for rewards and this made it crystal clear to him. I am not sure how much I will use it in the future but I think it has a place in my training bag for certain things.
Wow, nice to read comments from so many open minded trainers/dog handlers.
I know people who won't use the prong collars, they 'look' horrible. I love them.
I know people who won't use an e-collar, I love mine.
I know people who refuse to attend dog classes seminars (they can do it themselves gosh darn it, what can someone who has trained many dogs have over them?). I go to dog classes.
And I also use a clicker.
Just another tool in my box of tricks. It doesn't work for everything. But when it is understood by the human part of the team, and used properly, it's amazing how fast and willing a dog can be to learn something.

I had never used clickers before, but when I went to see the trainer on Tuesday for our one-on-one, they showed me how to use it properly, and explained that it can be used in conjunction with so-called "adversive" methods. IE: You can use a clicker AND a correction collar together IF you know how to properly use them both.
I had no idea...

Well this was the last place I thought I would see the clicker being sold but HEY, I respect those of you who use one I still will pass for now but I have always said if it works, is not harmful to the dog then go for it. I'll go hide in the corner now
