This is a super book. Cindy bought it for me for Christmas. I have really changed the way I look at my dogs and my bond with them. I look differently at some of my training and what I have been doing wrong at my dog's expense. I recommend this book for anyone..

Are there pictures of shepherd dogs biting people?
If not, I won't read it.

If not, I won't read it. No but there are stories about Shepherd Dogs that should bite people.......... namely their ignorant owners.
Read the book, VC. You might learn something.

I also read the book, and agree with Cindy that it probably could be viewed as a "chick" book since it deals with fine nuances rather than gross motor skills...
Because I am an impatient reader, I skimmed through some of the anecdotes, even though I find her style of writing entertaining. However, the part that made the most impression on me was in the section dealing with the difficulty of communication and her description of a "game" she had her obedience classes play. In it the humans were divided into dogs and handlers, with each of the latter given 3 activities to teach their human "dog". Only the handlers knew what activities they were to teach. The rules were simple: "dogs" were to be silent, and the handlers could only use the names of vegetables to verbalize (commands, praise, negatives) as they attempted to teach their "dog" perform the activities. No minicing was allowed. Clothier then describes what happens in the game....most of it pretty funny!
More than anything else that description pointed out to me how very difficult it must be for a dog to understand what it is we want them to do, and how unfair (and ineffective) we often are in our training techniques.

I like pop-up books.
Hey Cindy, how about I suggest a book for you.
"What Happened to Your Sense of Humor", by a little know author. . .Mr. L. Ightenup.
I just ordered the chick book, BTW. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
I guess I'm not the only one that gets up on the wrong side of the bed every once in a while.

Vancamp, that book didn't get very good reviews <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I did hear Mr. L. Ightenup got into trouble with Mr. L.
