Amber, my brother had a Staffordshire Terrier years ago. He got her as a pup and took her everywhere. She loved to ride in his boat when we'd go waterskiing and would lean out the side, biting at the spray. She'd help him pull fish into the boat...great beach frisbee dog too. Really cool, very sweet, wagged at everyone and maybe not show them where the silver was, but would bring them a beer if he'd had time enough to show her how to open the fridge.
Well, along came marriage and a kid, and out went the dog. Ex-wife called him at work one day and said the dog tried to come after their son. Although, like you, he always tried to be in the room and never saw it or any other signs of aggression, he was at work the day "it happened". Didn't believe the Ex, but was not going to sacrifice his kid's life to find out that, for once, she was actually telling the truth. He put the dog down the next day.
Proud Mom of Abbey (aka "Moo") - my true soul mate...I miss you terribly and will see you at the bridge...

I HATE BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION!!!!!!!
I have known PBT's and mixes of them all of my life, and I've NEVER seen one that was raised in a sound environment become a problem.
As a former professional groomer, I have seen MANY vicious dogs under 30 lbs, of all breeds!!
I also hate ignorant legislators
OK, I'm done now.....
No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!
Amber
we have 2 pit bulls that are 10 years old and 1 daughter thats 4 years old. we have never had any hint of aggression towards my daughter or any children. she plays with them, feeds them, dresses them up, takes toys and food away etc. they take it all while wagging their tails. i would say a outstanding temperment with kids. i believe a lot has to do with how they are raised but most pit bulls love people but not other animals.
A dog is only what we make it. No matter what the breed. Not very often is it because a dog is born that whey or it just the breed. I had to recomend that a lab be put down yesterday because it was going to eat everyone that told it NO. Are we going to start looking at labs now that I met a bad one? I hope not!
I have said it before and will always say that the intelligence of a dog runs DOWN a 6' leash. All dogs are only as smart or as stupid as their owners...... sadly, when one enacts breed ban legislation, the whacko PETA people get another notch in their belt.
Those that underestimate these people are seriously out of touch. That is one way to get things passed. Find a vulnerable little ignorant town and start there, then once a precedent is set, it can spread and will only get reinforced. I totally agree with Will on this. GET INVOLVED NOW at your local level to prevent this from happening in your area.
Read Ed's article on the PETA extremists. They are scary people!
