Thats a normal size for a good Jagd. I know you would enjoy earth work, that is if your not to wore out to dig a couple of big holes in a days time. Thats the reason I'm slowing down. Going on 57, the knees and back ain't what they used to be.
A lady in Kansas that hunts with and raises JRTs and Jagd terriers says the Jagds are much better trackers/trailers above ground. She will not breed for a smaller Jagd because she wants to keep them as they were. They have also been used to hunt wild boar in Germany. I have a painting of that in one of my dog books.
It's watching and listening to the little guys work that makes it worth it. Most people tell me I'm nuts to let a dog go in a hole just to dig it out. It will keep me young or kill me. Havn't figured out which yet. It's late, I have a layoff day tomorrow, and have a shit load of honeydos to catch up on. night all!
Last time I went boar hunting, I had the help of a border collie and a beagle.
It was definitly a sight to behold. That border collie definitly had a pair. And every time I heard the beagle, it sounded like his guts were being torn out. It gave me extra incentive to keep pumping my legs and catch up, but...as it turns out, that's just how beagles sound.
So anyway, these Jagd terriers...what exactly would they do with a boar? If you tell me they'd have the 'nads to latch-on to an ear and go for a rodeo ride, I think I'm sold. For an 18 poundish dog, that's a lot of moxi.
