...oh, yea, almost forgot..every club has a dog to sell you that's better suited for the sport than the one you show up with....cynical? Could be...
Funny you should mention that. I just discovered another club in my area which has a few puppies left from, apparently, a club associated breeding. I didn't know they did that...

I train with a friend of mine who is an police k9 intructor as well as Schutzhund instructor, this is my first endeavor into titleing a dog. Any input would be appreciated.
thanks

I didn't mean that any available dog is no good. I have just found that where there is a club, there is always a few pups hanging around or someone is importing dogs, usually the Training Director. I have no issue with it. But if your new to the sport, you may be presented with alot of opportunities to purchase pups, young dogs and titled dogs. Take your time, that's all.
thanks for the advice. I just wasn't sure what the deal was with the "local clubs". I did some schutzhund training overseas while in the Service, plus here. Luckily I have some knowledge, otherwise, your right, you can be taken to the cleaners. Just the other day, I contacted a kennel about a 2 year old female they had. They want 4500.00 for her, and she is not titled. She is not confident on the sleeve while off the lease. I couldn't believe they wanted that much for this dog. But hey, someone will pay that much.
i have had nothing but good experiences with the clubs i've joined--schutzhund, akc obedience, agility, and herding.
i guess i've been lucky.
sure, there's people with isues and attitudes and people that are out to prove something, and there are people that are worth listening to and working with.
every trainer has their own way of doing things, and every trainer believes they are right.
a lot of times these clubs seem to be more social than training, but if you go with the intent to train and stay focused on your goal, other people start training, too.
i've never seen a problem with people joining who don't have a trained dog or are not familiar with the sport. everyone else was at that point sometime too. watch them train, ask questions, and if you don't like what you're seeing, go somewhere else. what works for one person doesn't work for everyone.
