A raised floor is very important and Richards idea about the baffeled entrance that seperates the sleeping area from the entrance that faces south blocking the North Wind. Hinge the roof so that you can clean out bowsers castle once in awhile and also leave a very generous amount of dry straw as bedding for the winter.
The key to keep it warm from the dogs own body heat is to design it to just house the dog and not the whole neigborhood of dogs.
AWsome ideas. I like the baffle idea the best, as in most buildings in the midwest we have entrances that allow People to come in with another set of doors to keep wind out. Same idea. Hinge the roof is too. To allow it to be cleaned.
I have been to Ed's kennel but not toured it. Just picking up videos and books. Its a busy place with groomers and what not right inside the door. I admit I havent been to individual kennels however, and need to. I will check out the site for ideas. He is 15 miles from my house so we share the same stormfronts.
If you have more input, I would appreciate it. Where's Norm when I need this built? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I live in the midwest - all my dogs sleep outdoors year round. The constructed doghouse, as in Ed's website works great for both winter and summer. I have an older GSD that takes a little extra heat during sub-zero winters night. So what I have done is taken the dog house and raised it a couple inches from the ground - I built a false floor just beloe the insulated floor. During the really bad winter nights I slip in one of those dog heating pads into the flase floor - BINGO - a little extra heat at a low cost & if your dog is a chewer, nothing to chew.
Hey Yall
Got the wood and going with w "Deck" that will be under the kennel, and I will build a insullated dog house on the end of it. Raised off the ground some with two rooms. I havent seen the idea's on Ed's site yet..Please direct me wont you?
