I am with Deanna and Jody. I did this with my male on the open type stairs when he was younger (I watched to be careful of his legs going through). It only took 2 times. He did them with no problem after that.
Nicey nice doesnt work well in most cases on this because the option to not do it is there. He is unsure and or has a fear of it so he picks to avoid it.
After you make him do it he sees that it makes you happy, is a good thing and it didnt hurt him so he has the confidence to do it.
JMO, but I agree, if gentle coaxing doesn't work, drag that guy up those stairs. He'll realize the first or second time that it's no threat and then no problemo....It's just like a socialization thing, but you can't pansy around..he has to go upstairs if you have stairs.
I have a friend who's Rotti was afraid of stairs at first, he hauled her up and now she runs stairs with him at the colliseum. She's so agile... it is a thing of beauty to watch.
Well, I mixed a little of a couple suggestions, food and dragging. I didn't feed the guy for 2 days - went to some stairs -- had some hotdogs at the top --- he started to go and stopped -- I drug him up about 4 steps -- he had a choice only 1 choice --- to go up and get some food --- he did it --- we repeated this about 20 times -- will still be working at it ---- but we are doing stairs. Thanks to everyone for their input.
